Hiding Behind the Blue

“Guess what!”
”What?”
”I’m dying my hair blue soon!”
Blue…..?”
”Yes, blue
”Why?”

Yes…. why would I dye my hair blue…? Well, there are many reasons why I would do something as crazy and spontaneous (even if it is perfectly planned). Like if you have blue hair, who’s gonna looks at your face? Who’ll notice that bandage on your arm? Who’s gonna notice your broken heart when they have blue hair to stare at?
And my very good reason: I am a teen ager and am dying for a little bit of fun. I mean I’m going to grow up and become a responsible parent and then isn’t a good time to dye my hair blue, is it?
}Pictures will be released as soon as I’ve done my hair}

I was gonna title this post “Scarves” But the post is more then that.

I have absolutely NOTHING to say. I can only muster up a few fake words to put in with the scarves. So here are the pictures, followed by a video clip of Selena Gomez’s New music video for I love you like a love song and Who says.

Well I had a tough time picking ONE Selena Music Video and now you have two.

I Love you like  Love Song

Who Says

having just watched the videos myself I feel the need to launch into a discussion about how beautiful she is and how natural it looks on her. Selena is a dream. I dream of Designing for her. She can sing and act and is simple wonderful. She’s never in the tabloids like Brittany Spears and is so simple. The video was really great. It was fun to watch especially ‘coz of Selena.

Rings…. that seems like a boring title, so we’ll come up with something better…. another time!

I really do love rings. They are a fun accessory that brightens any outfit. These are a few of mine. The pink flower one is a watch ring, it’s a watch in a ring, I love it! They are all really something special to me. Most of them are given to me from some or other relative. so that makes a few of them really old and vintage.

Fashion Terms {Post 1}

Here’s a nice blog post for you who don’t ever seem to know what I'm talking about. let me give you the basics, from material, to stitch and everything in between. From my post on Alexander McQueen, I mentioned a Rouleau loop. Used to button up Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.

Rouleau Loops

In short, a rouleau Loop is a type of button. It is incredibly tight and often you use a hook to to get the buttons through the holes. The Buttons are covered in a fabric of sorts and can be made using the fabric of your garment, Sized specifically and made to space the opening of your garment perfectly.

Darting

Contradictory to the name, I don’t mean you should go to a pub and go and throw a pointy object at a multi-coloured board. Darting is a process by which the seamstress cuts and sews the garment so that it it has 3 dimensions. Darts are mainly used in woman's clothing to make it fitted.

Petticoats

A petty coat is commonly worn under dresses to create a “puff”. To give the skirt more volume. You may know a petticoat to be worn under wedding dresses. it’s mad of a fabric the it aerated and light but strong enough that in layers it can hold it’s shape under a skirt. Petticoats also have a fun side and might have a pretty decorative fabric at the bottom of it to be seen at the bottom of the skirt/dress.

Alexander McQueen

With a name like that, it’s obvious he was destined for greatness. Something as great as designing Kate Middleton's wedding dress, well the label did. Alexander passed away last year in February. A great loss to the fashion community.

But the label designed Kate’s wedding dress, by a designer by the name of Sarah Burton.  It’s expected that the dress will influence the western wedding dress design, drastically. The dress and it’s designer was kept top secret until Kate stepped out of the care at Westminster Abbey.

The Design:

Kate wanted a traditional dress, with a touch of modernity. Kate gave forth her ideas to Burton and they were incorporated into the design. the dress has a Lace Appliqué bodice with intricate detail. The detail symbolises the United Kingdom. England was symbolized by a rose, Ireland – Shamrocks,  Whales – daffodils and Scotland, thistles.  The train of the dress measured up to 270cm. Hand cut English lace and French Chantilly Lace was used throughout the bodice, skirt and underlining of the dress. Because the lace cam from more then one place, intense care was taken to ensure each flower was the same colour. the ivory satin bodice was padded on the hips and taken in at the waist, inspired by the Victorian tradition of corsets, which is and Alexander McQueen Hallmark. There are 58 buttons along the back of the dress, which are fastened by means of Rouleau loops. the main body of the dress was made with white and ivory satin gazar. The fabrics were specially sourced by Sarah Burton. The long, full skirt resembled a blooming flower with soft pleats forming a Victorian Bustle at the back, leading to the train. To fulfil the British tradition of “something blue” a blue ribbon was sewn inside the dress and for the “something old”tradition, the Victorian style, and I’m sure Diana’s ring could be considered “old”. In order to keep the dress design a secret, the seamstresses were told that the dress was for a TV show and that cost was not an obstacle…

The thing with fashion design, it’s a background thing. Sarah Burton had her fifteen minutes of fame while Kate walked down the isle, and is now forgotten. yes she can say ‘I designed Duchess Catharine's wedding dress” But very few people know the name of the girl who designed the dress. Fashion designers do it because we love it. not for the money nor the fame, but because it’s what we love

These are a few of the label Alexander McQueen's work, including Sarah Burton’s wedding dress for Kate

I feel alive again…. sorta

i am in action mode. Writing, blogging, studying. There are about a million photos i wanna get around to posting and about another million I still need to take.

I was out shopping on Friday. One of my all time favourite shops is closing down and it’s 75% off EVERYTHING! It’s a cute accessory store. They sell tonnes of earrings, necklaces, rings, bags and so forth. They aren’t overly pricey to begin with and the fact that it was 75% off was crazy! So I bought a pair of gloves, a blue burette and a tiara. I’ve worn both the burette and tiara out. (Pictures are to follow because i have to up load them, just to add to the list)

I went out with my family and some family friends to a little cafe for lunch and wore the tiara. The shop owner asked if it was my birthday and then launched into a story about how she never wears Christmas hats at Christmas and rather wears a tiara. I got 75% off the tiara which was R200 and was then a mere R50…. i couldn’t resist. At first I felt like a total weirdo wearing the tiara, but actually, no one seemed to gape at me. I noticed a few people look at me skew, but nothing i can’t handle.

the blue burette was R20 once on sale, i don’t know what I would have paid if it wasn’t on sale. It’s really perfect for bad hair days and I think it looked really cute with my outfit of blue jeans, blue tope, denim jacket and the burette. Paired with a pair of earrings my sister bought be for my birthday.

For the Record it’s the day before the show…

It’s tomorrow night! And Kyra, my saving grace, got a me a model in the nick of time! Thank you Kyra! I’m a ;little anxious for tomorrow. there’s a rehearsal at the school at 9:30 am till 12:00, then we come back to my place, eat, make up, hair, back at the school, dress, show time! I’m really enjoying all of the work. I’m really looking forward to putting it out there. Also I’m looking forward to my next fashion project. After the show, I think I’m done with trashion, but if I make  “real clothes” then it’s something I’d consider selling, maybe I ought to approach YDE (young designers emporium) and see if I can sell a few designs there…? I will keep you posted. Fashion show photos to be posted as soon as….

Royal Weddings

In the last 3 months, we have had 2 royal weddings. But in the last 5 years, not one…. Now we have 2! The fashion opportunities have been sooo fun!

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Wedding

Kate and William put on an amazing wedding. Kate’s dress was designed by the Label of Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton. Kate had her fair share in the say of the design. The train was 2.7m in length and looked stunning. She wore natural make-up, a Kate hallmark. Her hair was half up – Half down and she wore a veil and tiara. It took Kate almost 15 minutes to walk the isle and it was obvious William was anxious to see her. The dress was kept a secret until she got out of the car at the Abbey. Then the press release was given that she was wearing Alexander McQueen.

The guest list was incredibly long and there were thousands of people watching from outside the abbey . and millions more watching the event on TV, I was one of them. I watched as the guests entered and arrived. I can’t say i was watching to see who was arriving as much as I was distracted by the fancy hats and dresses. The guests included all the members of the royal family, Kate's friends and family and even a few celebrities like Victoria and David Beckham. The king and Queen of Greece were also there. After the wedding there was a party/luncheon held by the Queen.

The Wedding Of Prince Albert or Monaco And Charlene Wittstock.

Prince Albert and Charlene met at a swimming meet in 2000 and then announced their engagement on 23 June.

Charlene’s dress was designed by Giorgio Armani. It was very simple in comparison to Kate’s. After marriage, Charlene became Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco; the last to hold the title was the Prince's mother, Grace Kelly. received the title of Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco; the last to hold the title was the Prince's mother, Grace Kelly.

I don’t want to sound horrible, but everyone I speak to about the wedding of Charlene and prince Albert, they all agree, she didn’t smile. There are many speculated reasons as to why she didn’t: It was very hot on the day of the civil ceremony, she has a very “gummy” smile, she had recently found out her fiancée (Prince Albert II) had fathered a child that was not hers. (Whilst they were engaged). So there are a few reasons as to why she didn’t smile. But In the attached photo’s I made an effort to find her smiling. The cake was enormous and honestly, quite a feature. Both Cakes, Kate and Williams Cake was also amazing

.

Giorgio Armani attended the wedding, as he is the designer of the dress.

Fashion Show, Post 2

Well, with the fashion show less then a week away I am entering hard-core work mode…

List of things I still need to do:

  • Need to find a model! I only have 3 and I need 4!
  • There’s a rehearsal on Friday that I need to attend
  • There’s a fitting today
  • Final touches to the outfits
  • Need to sort out accessories!

so, I’ve done the music, I chose Demi Lovato’s La La Land. I know Demi is cheesy and all but I first hear the song at a school music thing and I loved it. If you wanna hear it, click here. I think the song is really contradictory to the stereo type of models as is my fashion show range. I mean the stereo type of fashion is NOT trash…. Trashion. So I think I chose well, I hope….

The dresses seem to fit my models (the ones that i have) well. However I still need a model and I’d settle for a clone of anyone right now. My models are really great! I owe them all a big slab of chocolate…. Except one doesn’t particularly like chocolate. Not important.

Photos to follow in terms of the show and i’ll post my port folio next week.

A little help Please….

I am so struggling to write a half decent post… Like my English essays, I'll throw out a half dozen pages before I get anywhere with a decent essay. by the time i hand it in I’ve sorta got it and end up with an ‘A’…. So if you feel like grading my next few posts, don’t, they’re a bit boring. I’m ranting about nothing because I haven’t  a thing to write about…. well, nothing I can post on the public world wide web.

So sadly, today’s post is my English essay, that’s all I can offer….

It was the small things in life that made it worth living.

I had always had a crazy list for the man who would marry me. But when I was fifteen and married a boy because I had to, if I ever wanted to marry later on in life, I had to so it first while I was fifteen. That was when I realized that it didn’t matter if he was vegetarian or not, nor did it matter if he was afraid of spiders or not. What did matter was the love we shared, the promises we made: to love each other, forever.

It was what he did; the small things that made my heart skip a beat: a bouquet of flowers, just because, a quick kiss between classes, the adoring way he looked at me, how he called me “Love” and, his kiss….

His lips, his kisses…

The first night we lay in bed together, I was sixteen. I had told my mother I was spending the night at a girl-friend but had actually gone to his house. His parents and sister were away for the weekend.

I arrived at his house with a simple over night bag. I remember how he opened the door grinning. We had a candle lit dinner of “take-out” sushi, sitting on the floor of his lounge.

After dinner he ran me a bath. I tried not to “dawdle” because I couldn’t wait to get back to him.

After I got out of the bath I walked to his room. This was pleasantly cool after I had been in the hot bath.

We lay in bed together, we talked. I lay in his arms. When I did fall asleep it was in the dead of night with his lips on my neck. That was my first Love-Bite.

Fashion Week

So… I entered a fashion week. It’s on the 23rd. It was meant to be a Fashion Week but due to a late response it will now be held for one night in front of the judges on the 23rd of July. The briefing is that each designer needs to design and make 4 outfits to present on the catwalk. All entrants are high school pupils over the age of 15 (I turned 15 a month ago). It’s a fair competition, we’re all armatures and all within the same age group.

What do we win? Well, up for grabs is a fashion design short course to the value of R8,440 by LISOF (London International School Of Fashion) A Professional Fashion Portfolio Shoot to the value of R2,500 by international Photographer, Tim Moolman. And a 2 night stay for two guests at the Chartwell 4 star guesthouse, Umhlanga. To the value of R2,200.

What did I enter? I entered four Trashion items. the 96 Dress, Sun Kissed, Va Nola And Comic Candy (Photos at a later time). I had to hand in a portfolio and I can’t say that I put a lot of effort into it, because fashion design is effortless but I did take care in putting it together. I gave it my all. I went all out. (When I get the Portfolio back, I’ll scan pictures of it)

So fashion show. 23 July. Wish me luck!
