Fashion Week

So… I entered a fashion week. It’s on the 23rd. It was meant to be a Fashion Week but due to a late response it will now be held for one night in front of the judges on the 23rd of July. The briefing is that each designer needs to design and make 4 outfits to present on the catwalk. All entrants are high school pupils over the age of 15 (I turned 15 a month ago). It’s a fair competition, we’re all armatures and all within the same age group.

What do we win? Well, up for grabs is a fashion design short course to the value of R8,440 by LISOF (London International School Of Fashion) A Professional Fashion Portfolio Shoot to the value of R2,500 by international Photographer, Tim Moolman. And a 2 night stay for two guests at the Chartwell 4 star guesthouse, Umhlanga. To the value of R2,200.

What did I enter? I entered four Trashion items. the 96 Dress, Sun Kissed, Va Nola And Comic Candy (Photos at a later time). I had to hand in a portfolio and I can’t say that I put a lot of effort into it, because fashion design is effortless but I did take care in putting it together. I gave it my all. I went all out. (When I get the Portfolio back, I’ll scan pictures of it)

Beautiful eyes… Hidden by a mask

This mask is actually not my design, it’s Zoe’s. Also made when Clio was here earlier this year.

I included Taylor Swifts song, “Beautiful Eyes” because it seemed fitting.

The dress is a “hand-me-down” from a friend. The earrings I made, Mask is a home made paper maché in the shape of the mask.

A secret Affair

Once apon a time, a girl fell in love, her name was Juliet. She fell in love with a man named Romeo. Their love was forbidden, so every other night they snuck out to see each other. They then married in secret. This worked wonderfully until Juliet's father arranged a marriage for her and she took a potion that made her appear dead for forty-two hours, Romeo was to be informed of this sneaky plan but he heard of her death, not her plan. Out of despair he drank a potion to take his like. When Juliet is revived she is distraught to find her lover dead beside her and proceeds to stab herself with a dagger….

Now picture this as a modern day story with miss Juliet as a very fashionable and beautiful girl who will not let anything get in the way of her secret affair….        

    

New day Juliet was prepared for the troubles she would face meeting with Romeo in secret. So she disguised her weaponry as a hat. This hat was designed to kill but it was also incredibly sophisticated.

 

This hat is a favourite of mine. Made with 4inch long nails, red tissue paper all on an Alice band.

The DJ Hat

Okay, well, I made this hat a while ago and just about everyone that has seen it loved it. The name was inspired but "the Durban July" because it is a dress up smartly and look great type of thing, so when I made it my sister said "that is so worthy of the Durban July!" and so the name stuck, just we shortened it, so it is called the DJ hat. And I have been wanting to blog it for a while, but I have not had a modle for it, until one of my best friends (Adelaide) came and tried it on for fun and she looked great in it and it looked perfect with the dress she was wearing. So while we were looking at bees in the garden my little sister took some photos and they were really cool, so then we did a photo shoot. My sister took LOADS of cool photos, but I picked some of my favorites:

My own designs...

So it's been a while, huh old friend? But I'm not going to point fingers {I'll just nod in the direction of the cluprit.... Teachers!} I have had a lot of school work and in all honesty I'm doing well, so I'm not exactly complaining.

I have however been busy designing {in class.... well, just the boring ones... Oh, that's all of them...} This set of four is my date range. Perfect for a romantic night out with that someone special.

If that fails, design outfit AND dream guy, then play paper dolls and pretend :)

I suppos you want to know what inspired the drawings....?

The first one I wanted to be party wear and funky, spunky and FUN!

The second one was inspired by my love for pencil skirts (No I don't own one) and the top's colour because that was the random pencil in my pencil case.

The third one was me wanting to mix colours and I felt like a bouble dress/ skirt and then it just happened ;)

The last one was inspired by a top I saw on a girl at a party recently and I liked the neck line, it all then just fell into place
